Take It and Run Thursday – It’s not a marathon!!!

Today’s subject in the Runners Lounge is the Half Marathon! Woo-Hoo!!! And what better introduction to this great distance than to list 13.1 reasons to run one:

13.1 Reasons to run a 1/2 Marathon

1. It is not a marathon!

2. You have a chance of talking a buddy into training and running the race with you!

3. Training takes only 10 weeks, not 16!

4. Carb loading does not involve 2 pounds of pasta!

5. No nightmares of “the wall” will haunt you in your sleep the night before your race!

6. You only need a few packs of Gu, not a whole box worth and…

7. … therefore won’t suffer from post race “blow out”!

8. You don’t have to be lubed up in Vaseline half way through the race!

9. Chances are you can sprint across the finish line…

10. … after only 21k!

11. You still get a spiffy medal…

12. …sporting the word “marathon”!

13. You are done by the time lunch is served!

0.1 You know you can run a full marathon after this one!!!

Today’s Running Tip: Run a Half Marathon!

“It is a popular race for runners of all abilities, long enough to be a serious challenge for most people, but not requiring the level of training of a marathon. In consequence, many towns and cities hold annual all-comers half marathon races through their streets. It is also common for a half marathon event to be held concurrently with a marathon, using almost the same course with an early finish.” ~ Wikipidia

Grace in Small Things – Inaugural Edition

Yesterday at noon, Eastern Standard Time, our nation took a giant step towards hopefulness, change in the way we do things and think about each other, and choosing a leader for our country that personifies grace and devotion. With Barack Obama finally in the White House I have little doubt that our world will become a better one. In honor of this enormously significant day in our history I have joined the “Grace in Small Things” Network if only to remind me on a daily basis how lucky I am to live the life I have and how insignificant my every day problems are compared to so many of my fellow world citizens.

So today, on this first day of our fresh administration I am grateful for:

1. fresh water

2. fresh mozzarella

3. fresh linen smell

4. fresh fruit

5. fresh Japanese food

In order to keep the focus on the small things in life, Grace in Small Things posts will forgo the daily running tip.

“What’s happening today is not about me. It is about the American people. They understand that we have arrived at a moment of great challenge for our nation, a time of peril, but also extraordinary promise. And by being here today, and by participating in innumerable ways across cities and small towns, and suburbs all across the country, they are demonstrating the readiness to answer history’s call, and to step up and give back and take responsibility for serving the common purpose of remaking our nation.” ~President Barack Obama

As we celebrate the Inauguration of this great man as our 44th President we wish him only the very best for every day he is leading this country towards hope and prosperity!

Today’s Running Tip: Imagine success!

When the running gets tough, during training or while racing, think of successful runs or races of the past. Some people imagine running with elite runners and winning against them or racing against people that have hurt them emotionally in the past and passing them.

A dream come true
