Weekend Love

Meg posted her Love List on Thursday. It had been a while since she posted one, or anything in general (not that there is pressure or anything…), so I missed it (not that not missing it would not make me late…).

Today is one of those perfectly beautiful days in Southern California. The sun is shining bright, the sky is just a little bluer than normal, a slight breeze is blowing, and happy birds are singing. Spring is in the air and what better day to post the things I love than today!!!

~ spring air and the prospect of summer

~ springing forward to summer time tonight while staying in to help

~ Palmiers from the Bristol Farms bakery

~ anything with stripes

~ hiking on balmy late afternoons

~ the sound of Nelson sleeping at the foot of our bed

~ fresh citrus fruit right from the tree

~ apple orchards

~ Crossroad Estate on Firestone Vineyards

~ Holland

~ cotton

~ Beergardens in Bavaria on hot summer nights

Today’s Running Tip: Count your Blessings!

Not feeling like running on any given day? Remember how blessed you are that you can lace up your shoes any day and just take off for a run.

Cupid’s List

Meg in Vancouver posted her Friday love list yesterday. As always mine is following suit a day late, but since it is a loving day all around it is not short of befitting the mood.

~ the man I married

~ the dog that is part of our family

~ spending every single day with them, all day

~ living in a place where the sun shines almost all the time

~ being able to sit by the pool to read almost every day

~ finding happiness in the small things

~ Meg’s Love Lists

~ Grace in Small Things

Today’s Running Tip: Be a grateful runner!

If ever you feel yourself in a bad mood, remind yourself how lucky you are that you are able to run every day. Just lace up your shoes and get out the door. Take in your surroundings and breathe deeply counting your blessings!

Another week, another dollar short

It’s that time of the week again: Meg Fowler’s Friday List of Loving (note the stress on FRIDAY)! It is supposed to happen on Friday, but for some reason I keep missing the proper day. It might have to do with the fact that I am already blissfully dreaming of the weekend that is upon me, or it might simply be di(t)zzyness. Maybe I should just get used to the fact that I love Saturdays more and call Friday a day (did I mention it is a FRIDAY Love List???). At least I am posting early so shut up!

Without further ado, here it is:

  • January 20, 2009
  • Lambrusco
  • the Italian language
  • these Keen sandals (don’t judge me, they are awesome!)
  • bubble wrap
  • Apple’s industrial design gurus
  • Urban Spoon
  • John Stewart
  • white shirts
  • the smell of Nelson’s paws
  • Legends of the Fall
  • independent bookstores
  • cafes in small towns
  • roadtrips
  • soy lattes
  • the weather in SoCal these last two weeks
  • Santa Ynez Valley
  • the sun setting behind the San Jacinto Mountains that I see from my backyard
  • Quba clothes
  • staying in hotels nicer than my home
  • doing laundry
  • Sean Hannity’s temper tantrums

Today’s Running Tip: Love what you do!

Always remember what a privilege it is to be able to put on your running shoes and go for a run (easy or hard, short or long) in mother nature!

Loves and Love nots

In honor of Meg’s Friday Love List, mine comes a day late and a few hundred dollars short:

This Girl loves not

  • the noro virus
  • America’s economy
  • sand in her pool
  • the cost of dental and medical care
  • dirty hair
  • Boston (sorry Meg!), except for the marathon
  • people who spit on sidewalks
  • anything grape flavored
  • vacuuming
  • neck pain or pains in the neck
  • her toenails (runners unite in toenail ugliness!)

On the other hand This Girl loves

  • infectious laughter
  • the soon to be 44th President of the United States
  • umbrella drinks by the pool
  • the rewards of running every day
  • sulfate free hair products
  • NYC
  • people who pick up after themselves
  • lemon flavored things
  • ironing
  • Abhyanga massages
  • pedicures

Today’s Running Tip: Treat yourself!

After a long run or a race treat yourself to something nice, whether it is a massage, a glass of wine, or that extra yummie pastry you have been eyeing in the neighborhood bakery.

Today’s Running Tip: Getting over Holiday sluggishness!

To get back into your running routine after the Holidays start off with easy jogs through the neighborhood. Don’t push yourself immediately because you want to make up for the runs you might have missed and burn all the extra calories you might have consumed. To avoid injury and set back, slowly build up mileage every day until you are back to your regular schedule.
