Today’s Running Tip: Falling in love with running again!
A lot of serious runners are so focused on their next race, training for running a PR they seem to have forgotten what made them fall in love with the sport in the first place. As frustration, stress, and even injury take hold running can become a burden, another thing you have to do. Make sure to take time off from racing once in a while and just go out to run for fun. Enjoy the rhythm of running in fresh air without fulfilling a pace or mileage goal. Run without the constant nagging thoughts of the next race in mind. Don’t even plan the next race.

Gratitude

We all tend to complain a lot. As individuals and as society as a whole. And yet, so many of us have so much to be grateful for so when Meg asked her loyal readers to come up with a list of things we are thankful for I felt obliged to follow her lead. It is no secret that I love lists and since summer is on its way what better idea than to write about what I am thankful for theses days.

I am thankful for

~ the roof over my head
~ clean sheets to sleep in every night
~ my in-laws
~ health
~ having had a chance to help make a difference
~ the 44th President of the United States
~ living in a place with very hot summers and balmy winters
~ my dad being able to visit us every year
~ Yoga
~ my awesome neighbors
~ being able to fall asleep and waking up next to the person I love most in this world
~ becoming an American citizen
~ being able to exercise every day
~ not living in the police state of Arizona
~ friendships
~ clean water
~ Philosophy Grace Lotion
~ citrus fruits, especially lemons
~ my marriage
~ having common sense
~ my degree

Today’s Running Tip: Feeling uninspired!

On days you feel like you are dragging yourself out the door, take a moment to remember how lucky you are that you are actually able to go for a run at all. And think about those who had to overcome odds beyond our imagination to get back onto their feet. People like Brian Boyle!

Summer Love

Yesterday, Meg posted her summer love list. Since summer is by far my most favorite time of year I got all excited about this project. Even more so than I usually do when it comes to listing favorites (and that says a lot)!!!

So without keeping you much longer (I know you are as excited as I am!!!) following is the hot stuff I love about summer:

~ beachy hair

~ coconut anything

~ crickets chirping at night

~ oversized sunglasses

~ street cafes

~ yellow sundresses

~ endless evenings

~ swimming with Nelson

~ spontaneous BBQs with friends and neighbors

~ ice cold Pepsi One

~ laundry drying on the clothes line in the sun

~ evenings that do not require sweaters and/or jackets

~ the smell of sunscreen

~ waking up to a sun already shining

~ bare feet all day long

~ puffy clouds in a deep blue sky

~ Frappuccinos

~ natural highlights

~ sunkissed skin

~ seedless watermelon

~ gelato in Italy

~ no tanlines

~ summer fruit

~ riding my vespa without goosebumps

~ Venice

~ living life outside all day

~ jumping into the pool

Today’s Running Tip: Jump into cold water!

The best thing you can do for yourself after a long run in hot conditions is to jump into cold water. If you are running near the ocean, take a dip in it. If you have a pool, jump into it. If you have neither fill a bathtub with cold water and sit in it.

Saturday, I’m in Love

Meg Fowler posted her Friday Love List yesterday, after a long hiatus! When she posted them regularly they used to be one of the highlights of my week and signified the beginning of the weekend. Lately, however, Meg has been rather sparse in the listing of the things she loves as she is fully pre occupied with The One (thing) she loves most, and I truly cannot hold her lack of blogging and giving the rest of the internets some love against her. Her mind! It is pretty much elsewhere these days! In a place where they run a fabulous marathon every Patriots Day! (Gosh I am link friendly today…)

Anyway, I understand that I could just post my love lists on a weekly basis all by myself, but that would just not be the same, and would feel wrong. Therefore, I shall stick with the theme of Meg and only post when she does (no pressure).

What I love:

* Hubby

* endless summer nights in the desert

* magnolia trees in full bloom

* bananas with unsalted peanut butter

* BBQs with good friends

* a good Pinot Noir

* this girl

* Arigato dinners with the girl mentioned above and her boyfriend

* Vaseline Aloe Fresh Lotion

* Orangeheads

* State Street in Santa Barbara (especially early morning)

* VENICE

* the 44th President of the United States

* historical novels

* Honest Tea in Black Forest Berry

* road trips

* lemon coconut cake

* spending time in my grandma’s kitchen as a kid

* belly laughs

* flawless skin

* wisdom

* Georgetown

* Diesel clothing

* Comic Sans

* the Italian language

* race weekend

* Netflix

* Holland

* cotton

* weekends without plans

* Nike Dri-FIT Tempo Running Shorts

* the week after a marthon

* massages

Today’s Running Tip: Run with a buddy or two!

Joining a running club or running with a buddy will keep you motivated and more inclined to stick with a training plan as you can follow his/her/their lead.
