March (Madness) in Numbers

March! A month of celebration!!! Hubby’s birthday and the beginning of SPRING!!! Winter is behind us, finally and we are gearing up for our long hot summer here in the Californian desert. Although we still have cool mornings and evenings, temperatures have reached the 80s on a regular basis during the day. It is still comfortable enough to run outside but those days are now numbered. Although I am known to run (easy) even when the temperatures reach the 100s, soon I will find myself mostly confined to the treadmill. This is one reason why I plan for spring marathons and shy away from summer training for a fall 26.2 event.

I am half way through my training for the San Diego Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon and if things continue to go as they have I should be just fine on May 31st. Of course much depends on the day itself, the weather conditions and my overall well being the week before and the day of, but I don’t foresee any major issues. And since no Accelerade will be served as the drink of choice I am half way to the finish line before I even start.

Following are my stats for this, the first month of spring as I am sure you cannot wait to see the numbers:

Total Distance: 278.97 miles
Total Time: 59:44:00 min
Run Distance: 201.45 miles
Run Time: 25:14:00 min
Bike Distance: 8 miles
Bike Time: 40:00 min
Walk Distance: 69.52 miles
Walk Time: 21:50:00 min

Shortest run: 5.3 miles

Longest run: 20 miles

Average speed: 8.01 minutes/mile

Strength & Endurance Class: 4 hours

Core Central & Abs Class: 4 hours

Yoga: 5 hours

Today’s Running Tip: Keep track of your mileage – replace your shoes!

Make sure you replace your running shoes every 350 – 550 miles, depending on your weight (replace at lower mileage if you are on the heavy side) and the surface you run on. Runners who run more than 25 miles per week should replace their shoes every three to four months!
