When you reside in the Californian desert you can easily forget the weather patterns of the real world, the world outside your front yard sand dune. We pretty much live in a state of permanent bliss that comes with blazing sunshine and deep blue skies. In fact, should we find ourselves waking to a cloud hanging over our roof we often turn over under our covers to continue our dreams. But then there is always that day when it all ends and the harsh reality of the rest of the world hits us like a polar ice cap. That day arrived yesterday with a 20 degree temperature drop and a 30 degree wind chill factor and this morning we awoke to this:
And you know, I am not happy about it. Not one bit! While the rest of the world may look upon us as ridiculously spoiled, wimpy Southern Californians, I refuse to get used to 50 degree weather. As far as I am concerned it could be at a balmy 100 degrees every.single.day. and I would be a happy camper. And you know what, we might be spoiled and wimpy but our mortgage certainly gives us more than a legitimate excuse to whine on less than perfect days, not that our current house values reflect said mortgage payments, even if they alone could make you break down in a heap of tears.
But, as much as I want to turn over under the covers and pretend I am dreaming, the cold hard reality has knocked on my door and it is time to once again get down the long sleeved running shirts that have been hiding on the most upper shelf in the closet and put on the fleezy running gloves that have been buried in the farthest corner of the drawer and prepare for the dark, cold winter season. Hold me! Preferably until April!
